Abracadabra NYC's current FAQ describes a typical three-day rental but an extended October period that can run from October 1 until one week after Halloween, with exceptions. It also says October security deposits are charged rather than merely authorized. Confirm the exact costume, dates, deposit, pickup or shipping path, and receipt terms; a site-wide FAQ does not override the transaction in front of you.
Confirm every included piece and every forbidden change
List the garment, mask, wig, gloves, belt, armor, prop, footwear, and underlayers needed for the final look. Abracadabra says its curated rental sets are generally kept together and that rental alterations should be handled in store so they can be reversed. Never cut, glue, paint, heat-style, or permanently modify a rental without written permission.
Rent when access beats ownership
Rental is attractive when a one-night party, production, photo shoot, or appearance needs a higher-grade piece that would be expensive to buy and awkward to store. It works only when the available size fits, the event and return logistics are reliable, and the household can accept the deposit and damage rules.
Buy when reuse is specific
Buying wins when you can name the future conventions, performances, holidays, shoots, or component reuses. Divide the complete ownership cost by realistic wears, then add cleaning, repair, and storage. A vague hope of reuse does not justify a bulky premium costume, while an adaptable cloak, wig, mask, or base garment can earn repeat use across several looks.
Leave a fitting and recovery window
Reserve or order early enough to try the complete costume with footwear, base layers, glasses, hearing devices, mobility aids, mask, makeup, and props. Walk, sit, climb stairs, see, hear, breathe, and use the restroom. Record the cancellation, exchange, pickup, and return deadlines immediately and keep a simpler backup look ready.
