Use a fitting date as the arrival target
Write the date of the party, performance or school event first; it may be before October 31. Choose an earlier date to try the full costume on with the shoes and accessories you intend to wear. Check the selected size against that item's measurements, not another brand's label. For a group outfit, use the slowest or most uncertain item as the planning constraint. Record a fallback outfit that does not depend on another last-minute delivery.
Separate merchant dispatch from carrier transit
AbracadabraNYC's published shipping page describes weekday processing, a 2 p.m. Eastern cutoff and standard transit of typically three business days, with exceptions such as rural delivery and carrier disruption. Those statements are estimates, not an event-date guarantee, and extra information can delay some orders. Check the exact item and destination at checkout. A same-day-processing statement does not remove custom fabrication or special handling, and an expedited service does not automatically expedite production.
A worked example shows the calculation, not a deadline
Suppose your event is Saturday, October 31, 2026, and you want the costume by Friday, October 23. Assume, only for this example, one business day of processing, three business days in transit and two additional business days of buffer, with no holidays. Counting those six business days backward points to Thursday, October 15. That is our planning example, not a merchant cutoff: your exact dispatch promise, order time, destination, fitting needs and carrier estimate may require an earlier date.
Treat custom and oversized items as a different schedule
For made-to-order props, ask for production time before adding transit. For a large decoration, confirm the packed dimensions, freight service, delivery appointment and any receiving requirements. Do not use the small-parcel costume estimate for an animatronic or custom theatrical item. International orders need a separate customs and destination check. If the seller cannot document an arrival range that leaves an inspection window, choose available local stock or a simpler substitute that you can verify in time.
Check the return terms before choosing a size fallback
Read the policy attached to the exact item, including seasonal exclusions, final-sale labels, hygiene restrictions and any return deadline. A plan to order two sizes only works if the seller permits the relevant return and you can meet its conditions. Keep the confirmation, selected SKU, carrier service, quoted dispatch range and policy with your order record. If processing slips, revise the plan while a local alternative remains practical instead of assuming the original transit estimate still applies.
